MY church has been asked to help the family of an undocumented alien?
Bakunin asked:
My church has been asked to help the family of an undocumented alien. The man is a good worker, married with 2 small daughters, but unable to find adequate work to sustain his family. The family has next to no English speaking skills. We’d like to help him find work, to get food for the family and clothing, not to mention pay rent, etc. What resources exist out there that can provide assistance to undocumented aliens (without forcing them to give up their dignity, not branding them as criminals, as our government would do)?

Rowdy:
Many of the catholic churches have programs to help the Latino community, the majority of Latinos are of catholic faith. They could also get help learning english at many of the high schools or tech schools who offer english as a second language free of charge. Documented or undocumented should not matter we are all human and should be treated with respect and kindness.

There are plenty of resources for this back in mexico. Also, what you are asking for is mostly illegal. Isn’t it immoral to engage in illegal behavior? Doesn’t that make you a criminal?
Or to put it another way. Who exactly should give up their services so you can feel superior by helping a criminal alien abuse our community? Should the poor black family give up their job and starve so these people can replace them? This is no joke. Many of the victims of Katrina were kicked out of their jobs and left to starve because (in the words of the contractors), “the mexicans have arrived”. Those people were here illegally, of course. They worked for the same wages, the difference is they weren’t black (ie racism is a big part of this situation) and they have no rights so they can be freely exploited and have no power to complain. How about medical care. Is it fair and just that the local hospital closes down because it has to supply medical care to people who can’t pay….all so you can feel morally superior, letting criminal aliens absue our medical systems. How many people will die because of that situation? That’s happening to communities all along our border. Hell, it’s happening here in NJ where I live. My health insurance has sky rocketed because it has to cover the cost of these people and will go bankrupt if they don’t raise the rates through the roof. Only a matter of time until they go bankrupt anyway. What about the school system. Criminal aliens have flooded our schools with largely ineducable, downright antisocial youths who destroy the ability of the school to teach others. What do your neighbors think about this. You’ve essentially sentenced their children (and your own) to a life of ignorance and lack of access to all the things that education provides. How dare you take this basic right away from hard working, decent folk.
How about crime. Illegals are 4% of the population but 35% of the prison population (note that nobody goes to prison in this country without committing serious violent crime). What are you going to say to those in your community who have had a loved one raped, robbed, beaten and murdered by the criminal aliens you let in….all so you can indulge in a smug feeling of moral superiority.
What you are doing is wrong. Stop it. Note that, if you won’t stop it, recent legislation has been proposed to throw your ***** in jail. It will pass to, because people like me support it.

I’ve been out of work for 2 years from AT&T (14 years of dedicated service) and struggling to find a job. I speak English, pay property taxes and support wonderful charities. Why not have your church support someone like me versus helping an illiegal immigrant? My wife and I are attempting to conceive, so a child is on the way. If you find any good resources for citizens, please post them.

I think that it should be commended that you want to help someone, especially in today’s American culture that says we have more of a right to the land than to treat all people civilly. I thought your question was excellent and am saddened by the way people reacted. No do not help them, help me first. Why because they are more deserving? What makes them more deserving, because of where they happened to be born? Well I hope that is not their answer to God on judgment day. Hopefully long before that they will understand that ALL humans should enjoy the right to work and make a living for themselves and their family no matter where they were born. I bet that not a single one of those self righteous answers were from a native american. Instead they were given by americans today who have forgotten that they come from different lands and that they too made up this country immigrating from another. What a self-centered and more so Godless answer to a question on helping people. Thank you for taking a step, I like the idea of helping them with the paper work since our government does not make it easy, those same people who whined about you helping… bet they b*tched about how hard their taxes were and those are people who apparently, born and raised in this society, and still they do not understand how hard it is for someone to come here and find all the hoops that must be jumped through in order to make a living. As for the legality of it, the day the government said that it is illegal to help another human being and instead went to war to commit murder on innocent people is the day you need to ask yourself if you are living by God’s law or by man’s. Thank you for taking God’s law and not becoming “americanized” in the fight to make all people equal no matter what race, color, *** or any other discriminating and not letting those factors cloud your judgement on how to best help God’s children! Thank you to all the americans who know that just because a government says that it is wrong to help people, we had soldiers die for us to be free, in that freedom we made a commitment to let all be free, not just those who deem themselves worthy.
