They anonymously donate money, school supplies, etc., to help out a family. Even people who aren't wealthy themselves can help out just by volunteering two hours or more a month at their local food bank. I work two hours a week at ours, and it's extremely rewarding. The only problem that I can see with it is how do you make sure the money goes where it is really needed. I have worked closely with the Tx department of Health and Human services who controls food stamps and medicaid etc. I can tell you from personal experience that there are a lot of people who can scam the system. If they can scam a government agency so effectively it would be just as easy or easier to scam a charity. I would love to find a way to help the people who really need the help.
